We got a ton of feedback regarding our main header on Tutorial9.net, and we're trying out a brand new design to see if everyone likes it. It's a much more simple version of the old banner, with some brand new snazzy text.

The new banner is slimmer (making it easier to get to the actual content), less distractive (we got rid of those extra clouds that so many people disliked), and features our new standard typography format that we'll continue to use for T9. It also cuts down page sizes by quite a bit, making loading times a tad faster.

We might keep the old Dark theme look (it's a bit borked right now, but I'll fix that tonight I think) with the original cloud banner.

Hmm, I do like the slimmer style. The size of the logo as well as the navigation bar is good (but keep the smaller version for the forums I'd say).
I do however dislike the typefaces, both of them are none-standard i.e. they are both neither clean sans-serifs nor classic serifs. They both have a very comic book style, and I think it would at least be better if one of them changed. Having two different comic styled typefaces just doesn't work that well together if you ask me.
I know I have my (rather strong) opinion on typography sometimes, but I think we should have a cleaner logo for this project. One that fits all our content and the whole community, right now I don't really feel that's the case.
I like the size differences between the main logo and the tag line, as well as the alignment and basically everything except the typefaces chosen. (If you are to keep the current typeface, you need to at least kern the first 'T' in Tutorial.)

Below is just a quick demonstration I did, with three versions (from top to bottom):
•Two typefaces within the same family, regular and sans — my favorite of these quickies
•Thin sans with a condensed bold slightly darker 9 and a serif set in caps
•Serif set in italic with a thin sans

Everybody has their own taste, my versions are not in any way designed as a replacement of the current, just different versions to illustrate the use of different font families and such... I don't know, I just feel we need to do something about the logo to be honest.

I've made some adjustments based from your feedback Fredrik, and I always do appreciate it when people help out with these sort of things. I fixed the kerning on the "T" as you mentioned (even I should have been able to catch that one, as primitive as my knowledge on Typography goes). I also got rid of the second font, and replaced it with an adjusted version of the logo font.

Reason Being: I understand from a professional typography standpoint why it's great to use similar families, and focus in on strict serif/sans-serif fonts sometimes. I believe this is not one of those cases however. I've spent hours searching for the RIGHT font that will really work well for branding us. I found lots of them, and this was the font that really stood out in my mind (and at the same time, was much more affordable than the other ones I found.

We need a font that really sticks out A LOT from an ordinary serif or sans-serif font you see on all the other tutorial/resource sites. Something friendly, playful, inviting, sort of on the natural/pure/genuine side, and sticks well in memory.

Again, open to suggestions ;) Thanks mate! On a side note, you have image hotlinking disabled or something, because I can never see your avatar or images you post (had to go into the source to find your image you posted).

We're actually gonna switch things up here at T9 one more time (at least) before our launch. There is a preview of the new banner here. I'll post more previews soon ;)

Yeah, that looks awesome. I just don't care for the font on this version, so I hope the next one blows me away. ;)
