I guess what I didn't say was that if we had to have signatures that dA style would be best for this site. Sorry Mike. ;)

I'm a new user to the site, and I love the direction the site is taking. I do however have some thoughts about the forum format.

One small personal matter that I have with the site is the same as someone mentioned earlier about the amount of whitespace on the page. It isn't that it makes me bored, but that for those of us that have fairly bright monitors, a screen that is 70% whitespace is very hard on the eyes, especially during the night when everything around you is dark. The bright white of the page is very tiring on my eyes, expecially when reading through a discussion where there is a high post count. I like to read all the comments made before I myself make a comment, just so I can have an idea of what everyone else is saying and so I can relate. When going through page after page of comments, by the 3rd or 4th page, my eyes are burning.

That is just a personal preference on my part, as I enjoy a darker interface for my computer.

The only thing I really am not fond of is what JAZCASH mentioned earlier about it feeling more like a place to leave comments rather than to have discussions. Having each user's post be so constrained to a small width and having so much space between each post makes it seem more like we are leaving a comment in passing than having a detailed discussion.

Don't get me wrong, I will use the forum regardless of the format it is in, I just think that visually, it looks more like a place to comment on something than to hold a detailed discussion.

On the issue of signatures (I know the issue has been beaten to hell already, so sorry in advance):

I agree that image signatures are, for the most part, pointless and unnecessary. On the issue of text signatures, though, I don't think that they are what some people have been claiming they are. You have to remember what this site is, and who the users are. Like many of you have said in previous posts, this is a forum and a website built for people looking to further their abilities. You have to remember that the users of this website are not the same as the users on those thousands upon thousands of design forums. I don't see the users of this site as being people looking to show up or one up the others users. I also don't see them as people that are looking to brag or "show off". I don't see anything wrong with being proud of your work, and if that means you want to put a link to your website in a signature, then theres nothing wrong with that. Frankly, I don't see the need for it in this forum, as there is the option of adding links to your user profile in the accounts page, but there is no reason to assume that everyone wants a signature just to boast their abilities or to brag and show how great they are. Some people do just want to share their art.

Discussions are made of comments, no?

Haha, at that point we're just arguing semantics, but I do understand the point he's trying to make. Though I disagree. I think that the page feels very fluid as you read down the page. The simplicity and spacing make you focus much more on whats being said, and not as much on how the text looks.

Thanks cptcrayon, fixed the typo, and several other styling errors. Still got a few other bugs to take care of.

    Appreciate all the feedback folks!

Hi.. i'm a new user here. after some time, i feel that i like this forum. i have some suggestion though. i think, the most important thing that is missing is the personal message. you'll need it to contact someone which is private, won't you?
actually i also feel that this forum (the layout) is kinda weird compared to the other forum. but it's still easy to use. yah, you got the main point there. easy to use.
the next thing is... somehow, i miss the font and colour menu so i can edit my post. well.. not really necessary, but hey! this is a design forum right? don't you think that those things are important? ;)

thanks. thumbs up for the web-developer..

    • You may edit your Font Color with HTML, and even create your own styles for any post you make.

    • You can private message someone by "Whispering" here. Just type in the persons name in the "Whisper your comments to" box, and it will only appear to them. You can create new topics which are only shown to them, or whisper to them directly in a topic if you've got something only they should see.

oh i see.. so that's the function of whisper. thanks for the info.. :)

Isn't allowing HTML kind of a security risk? I heard it was, but maybe Vanilla overcame that somehow.

I think people moaning about the look of the forum need to wake up and realise that this is 2008. Forum's aren't just about Silly Sig's Avatars and Smiley's. What More do you need then what this forum system offers? The persons name, their comment and when they posted it.

It's perfect. I'd hate to see any other system in place here, I think forums like this are much more readable and easier to participate in, & There's very little scrolling because you don't have to scroll through ridiculous sigs etc and everything looks uniformed. Well done, and good luck with the site!
