My parents think differently about this. They are divorced.
My mum actually bought me the TV I have in my room, purely because I never wanted to watch what she did. Whereas my dad loves everything I watch (we download it all, all 11TB of it). So I just watch that with him on our 106" LCD Projector. He even likes watching my play Xbox on there.
So it depends on what your restrictions are, I actually don't need a TV in my room at my dad's house. -

I'm 27.. so I don't think I really fall under the "younger" crowd. I used to have a T.V. in my room, but I moved it out because I found that I wouldn't get out of bed until way later on the weekends, or I have trouble falling asleep. Electronic entertainment is a big deal in our house (3 computers, ps3, ps2, wii, tivo, cable, etc). None of this stuff is in a bedroom, though.
My personal opinion is that the bedroom should be for sleeping, and there shouldn't be anything in there to distract you from it. I also struggle with insomnia, so if there is something distracting in the room, you can bet I would have more trouble falling asleep.
If I were you, I would try to find every reason I could think of as to why I could NOT have a tv in my room (without asking your parents), and then refute each argument. For instance, a reason you could NOT have a tv is your parents may think you would not wake up on time, because you watched tv all night. Make your case that you always wake up in the morning on your own, and you are ready to go to school on time, and the tv would not be on after 10:30 (or whatever time you go to bed).
Of course this only works if your support arguments are true. :) Anyhow, get a few more arguments together, and then have a sit down talk with your parents.
And remember, don't whine. Arguing your point is a pretty grown up thing to do, and if you can do it well then it will be hard for them to say no.

I've got a TV, 360, laptop, speakers, guitar + amp in my room and all I hear from my parents is not to blow the fuse box by having everything on at the same time. :P Get a job, get some money and buy your own. They can't not let you have something you've bought with your own hard earned cash.. unless they're assholes. -
