Vista is software issues. I hope to get enough money this year to get a intel mac tower.

Hey so i have Vista Premium and i work at a store where we sell computers enabled with Vista Premium. I would never go to Vista basic because of the bugs, but premium is great. Only thing is, is that i am having a hard time with these boards cause they don't want to load properly or something. anyone else having issues?

Last I checked, XP had a sleep function as well. I used to use it all the time on my laptop ( Before I moved to linux :> )

I don't believe it was necessary to re-install vista. You could have re-installed your drivers, however.

Did you pull out the removable media without ejecting? That can cause a lot of issues.

In my opinion Vista has some great new features, but alot of unnecessary ones. Sure the interface looks amazing...but to someone with a slower computer, that's precious memory being used. So I guess I would say, if you have a more powerful computer, then Vista is probably not a bad idea. Honestly I think windows is dying in general. (just stating the fact, not trying to be a mac fan boy) Mac is getting more popular, I use them in school, and Apple is adapting them to more then the graphic design and video editing power. They've already signed with EA so mac gaming is likely to take off soon. It's only a matter of time.

/insert Mac fanboy rant on pitfalls of M$ here.

That aside, I'd say XP because it's reliable. Vista is new, and yeah its got some pretty great features, but you know XP isn't going to lose your files or destroy your data on your external drive. Well, I mean its still a M$ product so both those scenarios are likely to happen anyways but probably less likely than on Vista. :P

Having used Vista only once and not owning it I can't make a fair comparison, but I'd say XP. If you want XP to look like Vista, there are a good thousand Vista themes out there that replicate it perfectly. :)

    Edit: @ SJ:

Windows will never die, it may look like Apple is catching up but they have a LONG way to go before even having half the market. Hell, I'm all for a Mac takeover, but it just ain't going to happen. M$ is too rich and too powerful, they'll top the market for a loooong time.

Apple and Microsoft both have their respective audiences. There are some overlap areas, and Apple has certainly made a strong "comeback" in that area as of late. I don't know if it's fair to compare one to the other really, but rather see what works better for you personally.

Anyways, that's besides the point here. The discussion is XP or Vista. I'd agree with Storm that Vista is a new development, and as most new developments, it still needs some work. XP is NOT perfect though, and while it might feel more "finished" in some ways, there are parts of XP that still don't seem as good as Windows 2000 was.

We could go on to make similar comparisons to most Updated Operating Systems... Except for Windows ME. We don't talk about that.

I have been in the IT field for a few years now and I can say Windows XP out weighs Vista for now. Also James, XP does have a sleep feature. Maybe you already know or maybe I missunderstood your wording.

It has a sleep function, but in my opinion it takes a lot more time to wake up than vista.
  9. Storm Jan 20th 2008
My XP machine takes like 5 minutes to wake up after going to sleep, I don't see how Vista could change the speed it wakes up at though.

My Vista machine wakes up in about half a second. Literally.

I miss DX 10 because I just bought a new pc for gaming.

    Specs:

    Intel E6850 Core 2
    4GB Corsair Ram
    Gigabyte X38-DQ6
    nVidia GeForce 8800 GT
    Samsung 22" (3000:1 Contrast)

Of course, XP for gaming currently.

I have Crysis on full high, but without DX 10 I can't run it all on Very High (although apparently the differences are minor). But my PC wouldn't run all Very High... oh well.
