I've seen this done in tutorial videos, so I know it can be done.

When using the pen tool and zoomed in on your document, you can hold down a key on the keyboard, and it will temporarily turn your pen tool into a hand, which will allow you to click and move your document around the screen.

I'm looking for that key (or key combo). Does anyone know it?

Aaaah! Nevermind I found it. If you hold Space Bar while the pen tool is active, it will temporarily switch you to the hand tool. When you let go, it will take you back to the pen tool.

Space bar when you are using any tool will give you the hand tool - it is the key's short cut. Like V is the move tool - a is the white cursor - etc..

There are some super secret tools out there.

Actually, the shortcut key to the hand tool is (h). If you hover over any of the tools on the toolbar, it will tell you its shortcut letter.

'H' is to get the tool and it is will be selected until you change tools again.

Whereas space bar will only temporarily use the hand tool, so you can drag into place and when you let go - it switches back to the tool you were on previously. Quite more handy if you ask me.
